IELTS Writing : Answer the question!

필자가 아이엘츠 라이팅에 대해서 얘기할 때, 100번을 강조해도 부족하다고 느끼는 부분이

‘질문에 대한 답변을 해라! Answer the question!'

 바로 이것이다. 아마 지금 대부분은 '당연한 얘기아닌가?' 라고 생각하겠지만 그 중 장담하건데 80%는 어떤 의미인지 모르고 있다. 라이팅에 있어서, 특히 아이엘츠 라이팅 파트 2에서는 , 복잡한 문법과 수준 높은 어휘는 좋은 글 되기위한 도구이지 재료가 아니다. 아래의 질문을 보고 서론 (Introduction)을 써보길 바란다.

 Nowadays it is easy to apply for and be given a credit card. However, some people experience problems when they are not be able to pay their debts back. In your opinion, do the advantages of credit cards outweigh the disadvantages?

 주제와 관련된 어려운 어휘를 떠올리고 장황한 문장을 쓰기 전에 다시 한번 생각해 봐라. 결국 질문이 무엇인가?

“장점이 크다고 생각해? 단점이 크다고 생각해?”

 In your opinion, do the advantages of credit cards outweigh the disadvantages?​

그렇다면 답변은

“단점이 크다.” 또는 “장점이 크다.”

A인지 B인지 물었으면 A인지 B인지 답변을 분명하게 해야지, ‘A는 분명 장점이 많아, 그런데 단점도 있어‘ 이런 식으로 쓰면 그건 답변을 한 게 아니다. “단점이 크다.” 또는 “장점이 크다.” 분명하게 답해야 된다.

잘못된 예를 어렵지 않게 찾을 수 있었는데 이제는 어떤 점이 잘못되었는지 눈에 보이길 바란다.

It is true that nowadays it is easier to be given a credit card, and there is not any trouble with it when the owner has enough money in the bank account for paying the things that he is buying. 

‘신용 카드 받기가 쉽고 계좌에 돈이 충분히 있으면 별 문제없다’

Today credit card is the greatest technique to exchange money easily. Now a days maximum people use to credit card. 

‘신용 카드는 돈을 교환하기 위한 위대한 기술이며, 많은 사람이 이용한다’

Nowadays, people rely more and more heavily on credit cards and it's been argued whether credit cards benefit our lives or not. In my opinion, credit cards indeed make our lives easier and better. 

‘요즘 점점 더 많은 사람들이 신용카드에 의존하며, 신용 카드가 우리의 삶에 이득을 주는지는 논란이 되어왔다. 내 의견은, 신용카드는 실제로 우리의 삶을 쉽고 더 낫게 만들었다.

Credit card is becoming a very popular tool in both online or in store shopping, however this is not risk free, if consumers cannot pay back the money on time, huge penalty will apply. In my view, I think this payment type should be encouraged. 

‘신용 카드는 온라인 쇼핑 등에 매우 편리한 도구이지만 제때 갚지 못한다면 리스크가 크다. 내 의견은 더 권장되어야할 지불 수단이다’

2번을 제외하면 나머지 글들의 문법과 어휘는 낮은 수준이 아니다. 특히 3번 정도 쓸 수 있으면 'ANSWER THE QUESTION'만 잘 할 수 있다면 좋은 점수를 받을 수 있을 것 같다. 

그런데 ‘장점과 단점 중 무엇이 크다고 생각하느냐’ 에 대한 답을 했는가? 

글쓴이는 아마 했다고 생각할 것이다. 

신용 카드에 장점에 대해 얘기했으니까. 

그런데 질문의 요지는 신용 카드는 당연히 장점도 있고 단점도 있는데 

무엇이 “더” 크냐는 것이다.

이번에는 좋은 예를 보자.

It is all too easy to obtain a credit card and then to run up debts which are difficult to repay. In my opinion, the disadvantages of credit cards far outweigh the advantages.

신용카드 받기는 너무 쉽고, 갚는 것은 어려워졌다. 내 의견은 신용 카드의 단점이 장점보다 훨씬 많다.

쉽게 썼지만, 짧고, 간결하며, 질문에 대한 직접적인 대답을 하고 있다.
