I am now in my mid 30s so you can imagine, I have collected a lot of knowledge in this lifetime.
Among them, I want to point out a knowledge and expertise
I learned at work, particularly how to perform CPR on various kinds of people. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which is a life-saving technique to revive someone whose breathing or heart beat has stopped.
Even though I gained a brief knowledge in nursing university, still it was incomparable to my actual emergency cases. On one ordinary or less busy summer night, a bunch of kids were rushed to the ER from a drowning incident,
so most of them were in and out.
I was a newbie ER nurse at that time,
but
I had to work with no supervision because we were short-staffed on that dreary night. When I was applying pressure to one of the teenage boys, my senior nurse noticed my hand position and the pressure I put in were all wrong,
so she came on top of me and guided my arms and showed me exactly
the right pressure.
We had it going for 2 minutes straight, which felt like two hours.
It dawned on me that seeing videos and practicing on dummies are totally different from reality.
Medical professionals need to consider the body size, age, and other factors to perform that procedure. Eventually, I get the hang of it and performed it on at least two underage and one adult during that shift.
Even if I were not a nurse, this skill would be pivotal to help anyone in need.
I definitely urge everyone of age to try to learn this technique.
