I'd like to talk about my English teacher who was born and raised in the Philippines.
Apparently, he is a Filipino of Cuban and Japanese descent as his great-grandfather was a dentist from Cuba while his great-grandmother was half Japanese. I heard that he lives in the southernmost part of the country where the former president, Duterte, resides.
Well, I first met him online via Zoom as he was assigned to be my sub teacher once.
However, eventually, I got to attend more of his classes when the teacher that was originally assigned to me decided to quit and moved to the US for greener pastures.
Honestly, at first, I thought he wasn't Filipino because he didn't look like a typical man from the Philippines.
I mean, most
of the teachers I've met prior to him have darker complexions.
My teacher, on the other hand, has a lighter complexion and looks more like a Westerner.
I think he's really cool since he can speak English with an American accent.
He can even mimic the accents of several Hollywood actors.
He also has a great sense of humor and I enjoy attending his lessons
despite the fact that I find learning English quite stressful.
I must say that he is one of the best ESL teachers I've met and I do look up to him.
I just wish I could eventually converse in English fluently just like him.
