For any nurse aiming to go to the States, taking the NCLEX is part of the journey. NCLEX means National Council Licensure Examination, which is a mandatory examination for nurses to assess a candidate's eligibility for practicing entry-level nursing. In my nation,
there are no test centers,
so test-takers need to go to Taiwan, Japan, or other nearby countries.
So, as a working nurse, it was extremely challenging for me,
both financially and in terms of my schedule. I had to work double shifts to come up with the amount
I needed to travel to Japan, for my examination fee and my travel expenses.
I had to pull my purse strings wisely for almost a year.
Plus, as a newbie nurse, it was hard to file for a leave of absence.
I had to seek approval from a lot of my superiors.
I truly appreciate my parents for supporting me emotionally and financially. Even though I tried to save money for it, they still offered graciously for me to feel less burdened and focus more on reviewing.
Their help really boosted my morale. Apart from that, I want to acknowledge the efforts of one of the senior nurses
I had because she gave me a lot of her review materials and pointers to help me ace the exam.
I have to admit that waiting for the test results was quite nerve-racking.
I could barely sit still.
However, when I finally got my result, I was jumping for joy to see
I passed it
with flying colors. All the hard work I invested in it
paid off.
It felt like a thorn was taken out from my heart. So, I rushed back home and told my parents about my success, then we went out for dinner in a fancy restaurant to celebrate.
It was a joyous moment and I consider it one for the books. Hitting this milestone made me realize anything is possible as long as I set my heart on it.
