I was once given a choice between finishing a master's degree abroad or signing a three-year contract with a large corporation.
I chose to sign with the company. After graduating, with a communications degree,
I did not have a lot of options but armed with my knack for attention to detail and creating content,
I was blessed with the opportunity to work as a researcher for CNN International, one of the leading news companies in the world.
I was over the moon and could not believe my luck. Of the probably hundreds who sent their resume and samples, they chose me. Unfortunately, on the same day,
I was also offered a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin, USA.
Honestly, I seriously did not know what to do.
It was too good to be true to have not one but two "chance of a lifetime" opportunities.
Working at CNN will open up my career and really look good on my resume.
At the same time, a scholarship from a prestigious university is something that I should also not ignore. Both gave me only a few days to make my final decision and within that time, I consulted everyone
I know from my close friends to relatives and even my former professors. Some told me to forgo the career and take the scholarship
while others said to take the career as the school will always be there. In the end,
I chose to sign with CNN.
I really wanted to work for them and it was my dream to be a part of their organization.
Also it was my first-ever full-time paying job
so I was so excited about it.
I learned everything that I know right now from them and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity.
I was even promoted after only a year and a half to segment producer for a local show.
It was amazing. All in all,
I never regretted my decision as it became my stepping stone to greater ventures in my career.
