roads and irate drivers are easy to see in my country, especially in highly urbanized cities like Seoul or Busan.
But it is more evident all around South Korea
every time we celebrate Seollal, which is the lunar new year or Chuseok, which is our version of Thanksgiving Day.
So, today, let me tell you about my experience during this year's Chuseok.
As far as I remember, since I graduated high school,
I had never joined my family gatherings in the countryside where my grandparents reside. Our ancestral home is located, specifically, in the rural side of Gwangju which takes so many hours to get to from my residential place in Changwon.
So, because I was extremely busy
accomplishing my academic goals,
I stopped attending it. Now that I was working,
I wanted to reunite with my aunts and uncles, my cousins and my grandparents,
so I decided to tag along with my parents. On that day, as expected, city roads and highways were all full of cars, bumper to bumper.
I guess those were also families traveling to the countryside for that annual holiday, just like us.
But I never imagined getting stuck there for more than an hour.
The supposed to be four hour car trip, became an exhausting six-hour trip.
Luckily though,
I took a book with me.
You won't believe it
but I had read it cover-to-cover before we arrived at our destination.
Anyhow, although I couldn't put my feet up while experiencing the turtle-like
speed and bumper-to-bumper situations on the road,
I felt productive.
Not only did I finish reading a book that had been sitting on my desk for some time,
but I also got to discuss many different adult matters with my mom and dad heart-to-heart.
It was a satisfying and worthwhile experience.
