I believe it has something to do with their environment. When you live in a country that is either too rich or too poor,
you seldom think of the future because you are more concerned about your life in the present. For someone living in a place like Europe,
for instance,
if you were earning enough to afford a decent life, what else is there to aim for? So for these people, living day-by-day without worry is enough to lull them into complacency.
If, however, you live in an area where the majority are below the poverty line, being able to eat a decent meal
a day will be the main focus of your entire existence.
