I believe it's because, for many families,
this is the only time we can have relatives over. Koreans lead hectic lives, and it takes a lot of effort to bring everyone together to celebrate anything,
so when we get the opportunity, we indulge in food. I know that we can make any occasion more memorable if we spend a little more on catering, so it is not a big deal.
Many of the items aren't too expensive to cook off their own,
but when you have to feed at least 30 people, then it gets costly. But I believe we can make it work because it happens just once in a while.
