I normally don't believe in first impressions and I want to give my acquaintances the benefit of the doubt most of the time. I first started to develop this opinion
when I was in my first grade in primary school. To be more exact, that was when I first met my homeroom teacher Miss Baek who impressed me a lot. As far as I can
remember, before entering elementary school,
I was a homebody since I was brought up by my grandparents who were quite old.
What I mean is that when my mom and dad went to work early in the morning, they dropped me off at my grandparents' home which was just a stone's throw away from ours. Since they were already aged and weak,
I didn't have a lot of playtime outdoors with my peers.
So on my first day in primary school, I didn't know anyone.
At that time.
I was just looking forward to making new friends, but my homeroom teacher looks strict.
In fact, she reprimanded my classmates for running around the classroom and making noise. When our first class
started,
my first impression of Miss Baek changed.
She was the most soft-spoken, kind-hearted and child-friendly adult
I met. Not to mention,
I was impressed by the fact that she didn't play favorites at all-
she treated everyone fairly.
Besides, I admired her for not being a fan of punishments, rather
she was more into rewarding systems.
For example, every time we did our homework participated in the class, and joined classroom activities,
she stamped our hands with a star mark.
I was so in love with those star marks that I always jumped for joy and pride every time I went back home. Also, as most of us were raised by double- income parents,
Miss Baek often went the extra mile to take care of us.
So, I figured out that I have to get to know a person instead of believing in first impressions alone.
It continues to surprise me to this day.
