I find it praiseworthy when people develop the habit of reading.
I used to read a lot.
I would consume a series of books in less than a week.
I think time management is a big challenge for me now and something that my friend Rachel overcame. Even though she has a job,
she still finds time to read books, which, in my opinion, is almost impossible to do in this day and age.
She says that her day felt incomplete
if a chapter of a book she was reading was left unfinished.
I asked her how she could focus on that with everything going on in her life,
and the only thing she would do is turn her mobile phone off.
I thought that was brilliant.
The best suggestion I've ever heard because, these days, the internet and our gadgets are our main obstacles when doing anything.
Once you have that device in your hand, even falling asleep is difficult.
I think she started developing this habit after I shared my review of the book Ender's Game.
She said that she envied me for reading
an entire saga as Ender's Game as a series of eight books, and that got her looking for good authors in the young adult
genre.
She found several and started reading from then on. I, on the other hand, have slipped in my reading.
I can't seem to find the time nor the energy to pick up a book and start.
I have also been too engrossed in social media, specifically Facebook, TikTok, to bother looking for a story that piqued my interests.
I've also lost touch with the literary world and no longer know who the trending authors are or which book series are gaining fans.
I want to get that habit back because I remember feeling so much pleasure once I closed the book and put it down for the last time.
It's an adventure, you take with your mind, but your body feels the you euphoria as well.
Sadly, it entails me giving up a few hours online and making sure that I stick to it until it becomes part of me, which should take Twenty One days.
