There could be two ways to become an elite
athlete. One
good way is to surpass high levels of stress that need to be endured during competitions.
They should have the self-driven aim to be the best choice of themselves while observing the moral standards of the game.

However, we can't deny the fact that even in sports it can be dirty.
There are many famous professional athletes, who rose to fame, not because of their real skill. They could either play dirty or cheat in the game.

some of them are just considered top athletes because of the false marketing their managers have used to push them into the limelight.
There are a lot of them, but I hate to name-drop because I do not want to pass judgment.
