I joined my wife on a trip to Bangkok three years ago. She had to attend a work conference and I was on leave for the holidays,
so I decided to tag along. Twice during that trip, we visited the Patpong night market which was conveniently located near our hotel.
It was only a couple of blocks away from Lumpini Park where we spent many late afternoons together. There were all sorts of items for sale such as scented candles, traditional, wooden toys, clothes and even artwork.
We were looking for the perfect souvenir for my mother-in-law when we saw this
very nice handmade elephant carving. It doubled as a night lamp and was about the size of a large basketball.
It was a relief when my wife decided to buy it since the market was about to close and she had a hard time making up her mind. It was a great purchase!
I felt that we got the better end of the deal since I was able to haggle a 20% discount. There was a subdued
