I grew up in Busan and probably the most important business
there is Hanjin.
It's an old organization;
I hear that it has been there since the second world war. Hanjin is a chaebol or a large family-owned conglomerate. Their main line of business is shipping, but I think they have other interests too in airlines and real estate.
It's practically impossible to get an exact headcount Hanjin employees, but they can easily number in tens of thousands.
It has thousands of workers on the Busan coast alone, and they have offices and ports in major cities in Asia, Europe, Africa
and the Americas. This organisation employs all kinds of people. Most are seafarers, but they also provide jobs for port workers, technicians, logistics officers and truckers. It makes me proud that a Korean company grew this way and became a dominant player globally.
It has provided a living for generations of people and was instrumental

It has provided a living for generations of people and was instrumental
in Korea's post-war recovery.
On the other hand, Hanjin ran into some bad times five or six years ago and declared bankruptcy. Mismanagement, in fighting and a global economic recession
forced it to sell off its assets,
close many of its subsidiaries and restructure into a much smaller organization.
The sad thing is that many employees and customers suffered because of Hanjin's fall from grace.
