I honestly believe that the general population prefers to live in a house with a little land.
The main reason is space,
this allows the homeowner privacy, security and the ability to construct whatever appeals to their personal needs. For example, a family that has children, having their own space for them to play outside in a controlled environment gives the parents peace of mind for the safety of them while at the same time the ability to watch over the siblings. Moreover, a lot of people enjoy developing the surrounding landscape of the home such as planting flowers, shrubs or even a play area for the children.
