I believe there are two common reasons. Firstly, sport fishing is quite common recently among the middle class.
It's a good pastime to unwind as lakes are usually calm and quiet, with fresh air and alfresco. And second off, fishing for income or food has been a traditional method for some, especially those who live on the coast.
