Although I have excellent listening skills.
I'm not a compelling motivator to anyone around me.
I guess this is because I prefer sitting in silence with all ears for others, rather than being a chatterbox. But I had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when my persuasive encouragement helped someone. And that someone is my best friend, Fumi. She has been working as a team leader for a group of sales representatives in her company for more than a decade already. And early last year,
she worked her socks off for a job promotion. During that time,
She was breaking her back to train her team members, so they can record higher sales figures than their quota. But despite being able to do so, the management position
she worked hard for was given to her boss' nephew instead. Fumi was in low spirits at that time and I never saw her drowning her troubles and alcohol like that ever before. So, I encouraged her to take a break and escape the hustles and bustles of her
life, just like going on a short weekend
getaway. At first, she dismissed it because she wanted to show her colleagues that she was strong as an ox and will never be disheartened by unjust promotions. But I went the extra mile to encourage and convince her to do this by buying her a plane ticket to Jeju Island, then she finally gave in and hit the road.
It was a big deal for me to get her hopes up because when I was at the lowest point of my life, she was always there for me -
she was my crying shoulder until I got back on my feet.
So, I wanted to pay for her goodness back.
Anyhow, I felt like I finally earned my place in the sun when she came back from her holiday with a light heart.
