I have been keen on Japanese culture because my country has been directly and indirectly affected by it.
I can truly say that it has its way to snake into or attach to our lives here. If my memory serves me right, the very first time I experienced anything to do with Japan was when I first ate sushi back in the day. My parents used to treat me and my siblings to the fancy restaurant twenty minutes away from our apartment.
I have to admit it was love at first taste,
thus it piqued my interest in where that food originated. In all honesty, even though I am reluctant to say this proudly given the colorful history we had with Japan, our cultures were quite alike.
I'd say the similarities in ways of cooking and preparation, some festivals, and traditional practices are uncanny.
If you notice kimbap looks like a sushi roll. Not to mention, we both have cherry blossom festivals that caused a stir who started it first.
Lastly the common practice of bowing to elders or superiors as a sign of respect is the same for South Korea and Japan.
